Could Hisana understand Kuchiki Byakuya any better than he did? Somehow he doubted it. Maybe Byakuya didn’t care. Maybe to talk was enough, as long as the one beside him in this bedroom seemed to be listening.

Reflexively the soul-slayer shifted closer to his keeper, suddenly wishing his master would elaborate on his gentle stare; this time he promised himself he would memorise every word. But though Byakuya didn’t flinch away, nor did he seem inclined to elaborate either.
The Kuchiki never told him to leave; he just murmured that it was time he slept, then drew his arms from either side and rolled over, burrowing into the opposite side of the futon. The zanpakutou could have stayed where he was, but somehow he knew that was not what he should do. Silently he arose from the dense floor and slipped out through the screen doors that hid the hallway, further down to his own place of rest.
